1. Who we are
Filipinos in the UK Ltd ("we", "us", "our") is the data controller of personal data collected through this website. We are a company registered in England & Wales. Company number: 17289665. Registered office: Suite RA01, 195-197 Wood Street, London, E17 3NU.

2. What data we collect
- Account & contact data — name, email address and (optionally) phone number when you create an account or contact us.
- Business & event submission data — business name, description, address, postcode, contact details, opening hours and images you submit for a directory listing; and event title, date, location, description, organiser details and poster image you submit for our Events page.
- Location data — addresses you provide and the latitude/longitude coordinates derived from them by Google Maps, used to display businesses on our map.
- Transaction data — records of advertising subscriptions and product sales handled via the Website. Card details are processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers.
- Usage data — pages viewed, referrer, device and browser information, approximate location from IP, collected via analytics tools.
- Communications — the content of any messages you send us.
3. How we use your data and our lawful basis
- Performance of a contract — to create and manage your account, publish your business listing, process advertising subscriptions, facilitate product sales between Buyers and Sellers, publish community event listings you submit, and provide customer support.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Website secure, prevent fraud and abuse, understand how the Website is used, and improve our service. We balance these interests against your rights.
- Consent — for non-essential cookies, marketing emails and any optional features. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — to comply with UK tax, accounting and other legal requirements.
4. Who we share data with
We share personal data only with trusted recipients, including:
- our hosting and cloud infrastructure provider;
- our payment processor (for subscription and product payments);
- Google Maps (for geocoding addresses and rendering map tiles);
- analytics providers (e.g. Google Analytics) using anonymised or pseudonymised data;
- email delivery providers for transactional and (with consent) marketing emails;
- Sellers and Buyers, to the extent strictly necessary to fulfil a transaction;
- professional advisers, regulators and law-enforcement bodies where required by law.
5. International transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Standard Contractual Clauses) to ensure your data receives an equivalent level of protection.
6. How long we keep your data
- Account and listing data — for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards to handle disputes or queries.
- Transaction records — for at least 6 years, as required by UK tax law.
- Marketing data — until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent.
- Analytics data — typically retained in aggregate or anonymised form.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- request erasure of your data in certain circumstances;
- restrict or object to certain processing;
- data portability;
- withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent;
- complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
To exercise any of these rights, email filipinosintheuk@gmail.com. We will respond within one month.
8. Cookies & similar technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by the websites you visit. They help sites work, work more efficiently, and provide information to the site's owners. We use the following categories:
- Strictly necessary / essential — required for the Website to function, such as keeping you signed in, maintaining your session and remembering your cookie preference. These do not require consent and cannot be turned off.
- Functional — remember choices you make (such as language or region) to provide an improved experience.
- Analytics — for example Google Analytics, used with your consent to understand how visitors use the Website so we can improve it. Data is collected in an aggregated and largely anonymised form.
- Marketing — used with your consent to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and, in future, to show relevant ads on third-party platforms.
- Third-party embeds — Google Maps (for our directory map) and Instagram (for our news feed) may set their own cookies when you load their content.
Managing cookies. When you first visit the site you'll see a cookie banner letting you accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time by clearing site data in your browser and reloading. Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies via their settings. Disabling essential cookies may affect how the Website works.
9. Children
The Website is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including encryption in transit, access controls and regular review of our suppliers. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data as best we can.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted on the Website. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
